I actually have two favorite RSS readers. Both are now free! Check them out and feel free to leave feedback with your opinion.
1. NewsDemon – Newsdemon was raved about on “The ScreenSavers” TV show and has many loyal users. I loved the trial I had a while back of a previous version and quit using it because it wasn’t free. I didn’t want to pay money for an RSS reader when even at the time there were some decent free readers out there. Now that NewsDemon has been released for free, I’m definately switching back!
2. Attensa – this is also a very nice enterprise grade RSS reader. I have been using this for over a year and love it. It has some nice features that NewsDemon does not have and integrates very nicely into Outlook. Definately check this one out as well and compare the two for yourself.
Admittedly Liz and I are hooked on a few shows, specifically Heroes and Journeyman that come on Monday nights. I also like Chuck, but thats more of a geek/tech show so Liz isn’t as interested in that one. Heroes last night was awesome, yes slightly predictible but still a great story and an episode that gave more answers to questions raised in previous episodes.
***SPOILER*** I did know what was going to happen when HRG (Noah) was shot in the eye, and was not surprised at the end to see the blood bring HRG back to life and fix his eye.
Journeyman was good, the previews for next week look awesome. The whole interaction with Dan and his brother Jack are very interesting and the characters are really starting to develop well.
My TILT came pre-loaded with a trial of MobiTV. I got an e-mail today that had an advertisement for the Free App Friday from Handango and they are giving away the full version of MobiTV today only. This is a great little app and a great price! Go here to get it!
We watched a few of the new shows on TV for this season, including Chuck and Journeyman. Chuck is kinda silly but entertaining at the same time. Journeyman is more serious, but seems very interesting. I am also interested to see the new Bionic Woman series as well. So far Chuck is my favorite of the new shows. But I’m a bit bias due to my technical background 🙂 (But I’m not a nerd)!
We had a busy but productive weekend! On Friday I had some work to do which took me until about 9:30pm; on and off a little after that or so. We watched a little TV before going to bed. Then on Saturday Liz went to a yard sale while I got the kids breakfast. We got done and loaded into the van and tried to go meet her there, to visit some friends and also for me to give Liz her cell phone which she left at home. We passed her in the Miata on her way home, but I waved her to follow me. We drove to a gas station and got some gas which both of our vehicles needed. Then once we got home we started doing some work, Liz got started on the playroom roof, scraping up the existing cauking and putting down a new layer of roof sealer. We talked to our neighbors a little while working on that project and then headed inside. We got some lunch and then headed off to Wal-Mart to buy Liz’s long overdue birthday present. We went to the New Tampa Wal-Mart and got her a nice new bike. It was pouring down rain while we were in the store, but fortunately, by the time we left it had stopped. We got home and I dropped her off at the curb by our house and she got to ride her new bike back to the house. Later that evening, I decided to start cleaning out the garage, partly beacuse it needed it and partly because we need a place to park her bike! Liz helped me and we got one side almost completely cleaned out. I’m putting out a bunch of trash tonight and we can continue working on the other half of the garage another day. Sunday we got to rest some in the afternoon and just spend time together. Liz is painting the girls room today so last night she broke down the kids bunk beds and hopefully when I get home, I’ll see a nice finished room.
Last night we didn’t go to any real fireworks. It was rainy and by the time the rain was over it was so wet we didn’t want to take the kids out in it. So we watched the neighbors fireworks display until almost 9:30 and then came inside and let the girls watch the New York fireworks on TV. They still enjoyed it but hopefully we will have better weather next year.
This past weekend was really nice. On Friday night, we had a friend over who’s family was out of town. We had a nice dinner and conversation followed by some time trying to figure out what the name of the winner of the TV Show “Who wants to be a superhero” was last season. I finally found the answer online and got in trouble because Liz was trying to remember and wanted to figure it out on her own… 🙂
Then we hooked up the wii and got to play for a good while. I think we started with Bowling and I cleaned up against both opponents ha ha. Then we played tennis and I think Mike cleaned us both up on that one, he is good at the tennis. We finished off with Boxing and I did not have the energy left for that, so Liz got up there and boxed and was beating the tar out of every character they put on for her to fight. She was really going at it and dancing around and having a great time. It was very entertaining to watch her play! Now if only we could get a wii!
We stayed up until about 2am Saturday morning watching clips from HD movies. We had a great time and it was nice to have company and do something out of the ordinary.
I have been trying to catch up on podcasting lately and have really been enjoying Tech Brief. I watch these podcasts via the democracy player which is very nice and allows me to automatically download any new shows and also manages deletion of older podcasts so I don’t fill up my hard drive. I really like this podcast, and think its fun and informative. I enjoyed the one with Mark Lowrey as a guest, and also Leo Laporte has been on the show via remote interview. Cali Lewis has also been on the screensavers before.
Side note: I was on the screensavers once on a webcam session. I got to talk to Leo Laporte about some server stuff and it was lot of fun. I wish I could do it again, but finding a good question that would be interesting for a wide audience is tough for me, since most of my work is highly technical and of a specific nature.
Tonight we tried the new Papa Johns “Perfect Pan” pizza. It looked really good on the TV commercials. I got the deal where we get a free order of parmesian cheese breadsticks and the pan pizza. I can say that the bread sticks were really good! However, the pizza was not so good. It had a new sause which had large chunks of tomatoe and onion in it, which none of the kids (nor myself) really cared for. One other thing that we noticed is that the large pan pizza is actually rather small. I think you get more pizza with their round pizzas. This pizza was a square. I’m sure there are lots of people that love this pizza, but for us, it was a flop.
